Migration Complete

The main blog had been moved over to a new host…

Until now I have been slightly suspicious of my web host’s claims that phpFunctions is eating up huge amounts of bandwidth. Yesterday I installed Google Analytics (sorry if you’ve noticed a slight slow down). I was pleasantly surprised, the site is getting a lot of hits! Google shows people using it from Alaska to Australia.
Statistics
Interesting facts include Firefox winning the browser wars with 65% (people who know PHP are obviously much more likely to change their browser)

Linux gets an 13% showing, not at all bad and just better than apple at 13.7%. And 40% have 1280×1024 monitors (800×600 at 3.4%)

7% have dialup which surprised me I have to say..

What I’ve learnt
Always put Google analytics in, despite the fact that the site has done hugely better than I expected, this is a graph of bandwidth.. it would have been interesting to see stats for the huge amounts of people at first.

Keep it tiny – my bandwdith costs have been saved by this victory of functionality over aesthetics

Put it on your own domain… think of all the link-juice splasho.com would have got had this been on it. Need to reco-ordinate my hosting packages and stuff.

Decisions, decisions..
And there’s the big decision, do I put ads on it. It costs me virtually nothing to run so I can’t morally claim that as a reason. Also I think its users are some of the least likely to click ads on the net (I don’t remember having clicked anything promotional in the last year). So, all in all its ad-free for now (no promises for the future).
